Last Tuesday 6th February was Safer Internet Day 2018Safer Internet Day (SID) is an annual, worldwide event held to help encourage a better internet, with this year’s theme ‘Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you’. Our school captains Mali and Finley reminded us at morning lines about the importance of the cyber safety message and always knowing that our parents and teachers are here for us if we need to discuss anything in relation to online behaviour or concerns.

Our OPS teachers each organised lesson activities and discussions specifically in relation to reinforcing the cyber-safety message. A number of Stage 2 and 3 classes also attended a virtual classroom facilitated by Aurora College – one of NSW’s virtual high schools. We chatted with hundreds of other NSW schools in a virtual room about how we can choose the most appropriate responses when we are faced with online bullying.

Below are a number of pledges undertaken by some Stage 2 and 3 students to be safer online and help our friends be safer online:

  • I will pledge to think before I post things and also always think about other people’s feelings. I will pledge not to post other people’s photos without permission from them or their parents.
  • I pledge to never write any thing that could hurt another.
  • I will think before I type and will never type anything that I wouldn’t say to someone face to face.
I will pledge to not say mean things to people online and to be very safe online.
