School Banking Update

We will continue to open for School Banking through to the last week of term, with the exception of Thursday 7th December when we are closed due to the Yrs 3-6 Celebrating Success Assembly.

If your child wants to order a reward and receive it this year, please get the order to us by Thursday 30th November. The tokens do carry over to next year, so don’t worry if your child is not quite at 10 tokens yet.

A big thank you to Iris, Nina and Nicole for all their help with School Banking this year. It wouldn’t happen without the parent volunteers!

Thank you to all of you who participate in School Banking. We have raised $1,279.73 in commission for the school for the first 3 quarters of 2017, with Term 4 still to go!

St George Community Awards

The 7th Annual St George Community Awards, hosted by Mark Coure MP, were held last Thursday 9 November at Club Central, Hurstville. Oatley Public School P&C Centenary Committee were nominated for a Community Group Achievement Award. This was received by Kristina Lamesa, Georgia Tapper and Alison Katona for their work on the ‘Memories of Oatley Public School’ centenary book. Congratulations ladies, well deserved!

There were many amazing recipients on the evening and some very inspiring stories. We would also like to congratulate the following people who have associations with Oatley Public School for their awards:
– Annette Morgan, Individual Volunteer Achievement
– Rola Zaklama, Youth Volunteer Achievement
– St George Life Education Association, Community Group Achievement
– Oatley 101 Society of Artists, Community Group Achievement
– Oatley Football Club, Sporting Achievement
– David Gibson, Penshurst West Cricket Club, Sporting Achievement
– Adventure Co, Business Achievement.

Centenary Pavers

Closing Date for purchasing commemorative pavers is 8th December.  They will be ordered and laid early next year. The current plan is for them to be laid on the path that goes to the left of the front entrance in front of the original building.

Single pavers are $30 (48 character limit) and double pavers are $60 (84 character limit).  An example of the single paver is above, and an example of the double paver is at the end of this post.

Payment can be made via cheque, direct deposit, Flexischools, credit card and online via our OPS Shopify site (see links below).  Please note: the order form must be returned to the P&C mailbox in the office (unless ordered via Shopify), as we will use the exact wording from the order form for your paver.

The P&C is very excited to announce that the Centenary Fair raised $29K for the school! It’s an amazing result considering the poor weather we had on Saturday, but just as a comparison, the Fair made $32K last year – so $29K is a fantastic achievement!

A huge thank you to the following:

* The stall coordinators who organised their stalls, managed volunteers, and worked all day on Saturday. We couldn’t have done it without you! Stall coordinators: Ingrid Socratous, Sam Guyer, Michelle Harrison, Mirvat Khedr, Shannan Godrey, Kim Rush, Billi Ilkovski, Emma White, Lisa Kirby & Rebecca Liu

* All the parent volunteers – whether you worked a shift on Saturday, donated baked goods, donated drinks/water, cooked for the Asian Food Stall, donated to the 2nd hand book stall and/or Trash & Treasure, bought raffle tickets, helped set up or pack away. Or even if you just came along on the day and spent lots of money! Thanks for turning up, lending a hand, and spending big on the day 🙂

* Our wonderful teachers who worked at the Fair all day on class stalls, on the Welcome Desk, running crafts throughout the day and MCing. Not forgetting Debbie Hunter & Slav Markovski (our Principal & Deputy Principal) who literally got their hands dirty taking out the rubbish!

* Our newbie Silent Auction queens: Natalie Holland & Lauren Sarraf. Silent Auction is a huge job, but they nailed it – and raised $11,500 in the process!

* Ynja Bjornsson & Kelly Hunt who coordinated the beautiful class artworks & Centenary merchandise

*All the entertainers & community groups who made our Fair so lively and fun, as well as our MC Simon Chan who flew in from overseas Saturday morning yet still managed to work the whole day. A special mention to Steve Hockings who, after years of lobbying, *finally* got the chance to do a Maypole dance 

*Susan Geddes who has coordinated flyer letterbox drops for the past 6 years.  This is sadly Susan’s last year at the school, so the P&C would like to thank her for her many years of service on the P&C, and wish her well for the future.  We will certainly miss you!

* Ros Ingram for her tireless effort (and years of hoarding historic documents!) to make the Historic Display in the Library a reality.

* Oatley Lions who provided enormous logistical support

*Renaye Daughton who coordinated the market stalls, and Matthew Corbett who was our traffic coordinator for bump in/out

* The P&C worker bees who work long hours to make sure everything runs like clockwork on the day: Sandy Plummer, Alison Katona, Sam Flyght, Claire Corbett, Leisha Major, & Mel Matthews

* And last, but certainly not least, Mike Daughton who effectively ran the Fair on his own this year, since everyone else was so busy with Centenary events. Mike stresses every year about the Fair & swears never to do it again, yet once he sees the final result, he always puts his hand up to do it again!

As you can see, there’s an enormous amount of work that goes into a day like the Centenary Fair. Thank you again to everyone who helped make it such a success. Our Centenary year events have finally come to a close. Thanks for all your support over the year, and you’ll be pleased to hear that next year will be much quieter!
