Illumin-Art! Save the Date

Save the Date! On Friday, 17 August from 6-9pm, the P&C will be holding a brand new event called Illumin-Art! It’s an arts festival of light and sound, and is supported by both the school and the P&C.  We’ll provide more information as we get closer to the event, however if you are an artsy/crafty person and would like to assist classroom teachers with their artworks, please email Sandy on president@oatleypublicschool.nsw.edu.au

South Hurstville McDonalds Fundraiser – Tuesday, 29 May 6-8pm

On Tuesday, 29 May between 6-8pm, South Hurstville McDonalds will be donating 10% of its takings to OPS P&C as part of its community support program.  I know that there are some families who may choose not to support this event, and that’s absolutely fine, it’s certainly not mandatory. The P&C will get 10% of the takings, regardless of how many people show up. Obviously the more people that show up, the more money we get, but whether you take part is completely your choice.  Other local schools have done this, and have made roughly between $150-$200.

School Banking Update – Term 2

Two new rewards are now available – Sparkle Glitter Pens and the Glow Light, as well as the Handball from last term. Please note that the Scratch Pad reward from Term 1 is now out of stock, and so unavailable for order.

The bank has changed the way it calculates the contribution it pays to the school – this is now based on regular deposits, rather than the amount. The school receives $5 for every 10 School Banking deposits made per student, plus a yearly fee depending on the number of students who participate in School Banking.

School Banking runs every Thursday from 8.50 – 9.15 at the canteen. It’s never too late to start – come and see us at the canteen on Thursday morning, or grab a information brochure from the office for more information.

Interrelate – Wednesday, 20 June

  1. Flexischools payment option is now up and running
  2. Families from other schools are welcome to attend, however OPS students will be given first priority.  Families from neighbouring schools can pay on Flexischools as a guest, or return the form to the P&C mailbox


Interrelate has been scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, 20 June.  The cost is $35 per family for one session and $40 per family for both sessions.  The attached permission note will go home in the next week.  Please return note with payment (cash or cheque) to the P&C mailbox in the office, alternatively you can pay via Flexischools.  See attached for further information.

Session 1: Where Did I Come From?                                                  

Time: 6:00pm

Audience: Year 3 and 4 students and their parents/carers

Program focus:

  • Discuss the male and female reproductive systems, foetal development and the birth process
  • Personal safety and protective behaviours

Note: Older students are encouraged to attend if they have not previously seen this program
Session 2: Preparing For Puberty                                             

Time: 7:15pm

Audience: Year 5 and 6 students and their parents/carers

Program focus:

  • Discuss the physical changes of puberty, emphasising that it can be different for everyone
  • Develop students’ understanding of periods and sperm production, as well as the physical, emotional, social and intellectual changes associated with puberty for both boys and girls
  • Enhance awareness of children’s personal safety and protective behaviours

  Note: Younger students are welcome to attend at the discretion of their parents/carers
